Land Animals

With his profound love of wildlife, and after spending a youth growing up in Ireland's countryside amongst horses, animals were always going to be Cusack's first subject matter when he commenced using driftwood as his medium of choice.

Driftwood is an exceptional medium when it comes to sculpting wildlife. It's natural form, deep lines, and gnarled nuances impart a texture not unlike the natural African landscape. Driftwood's strength and form breathes nature into each piece, giving life where none should exist.

In 2013 Cusack used driftwood supplied by the Ethekwini Parks Department to sculpt a juvenile Black Rhino. The Rhino was subsequently sold to Thanda Game Reserve in Zululand with the profits going to Project Rhino KZN.
